«The resistance test. The selection of art from the collection of Ekaterinburg museum of Fine Arts» for the project «Resident»
From 27th of April until 9th of September in
Exhibition focused on the Industrial theme in the Ural art. The strength it’s the energy absorbing capacity of the material and it’s the main metaphor of this project. Like the worker is fighting with the metal and stone resistance, also the artist should take into account the features of the material with which he works. They both take the resistance test.
First floor is about interaction between men and nature, nature that he transforms with his work, you can see that in the Urals artists’ art and graphics works. Art works tell you about historical past of the region, about exceptional people, who influenced the history of Urals, about magnificent nature, about heroes of legendary Ural Factories. Here on the exhibition you can find artists from Moscow and St. Petersburg, who were fascinated by theme of First Five-year Plan in Ural region, for example – Yuri Pimenov, Samuil Adlivankin, Alexader Labas, etc. Theme of industrial and urban landscape has a special place on the exhibition. Grandiose construction, that transforms the landscape, is very interesting for artists.
There is the room dedicated to the tales of Pavel Bazhov and their interpretation by Ural artists from the 2d part of the 20th century. Bazhov gave to Ural it’s mythology directly associated with metallurgical civilization.
Internal resistance in the latest soviet ural art – it’s the theme for the second floor. Here we can see works that are not directly related to the industrial theme – lirical thaw watercolors, self-portraits of artists and portraits of their friends, paintings from the Perestroyka period that captured increse of inner social conflicts. A special role in Sverdlovk live and in museum life in particulary was played by Misha Brusilovskiy, small room in the exhibition is decated to him. With the archive photos and video you can dive into artistic life of the city.
Nevyansk icon painting holds a special place at the exhibition, which appeared in the Old Believers center of Urals. It’s all about resistance, in this case, resistance in the spiritual and religious aspect.
