Space is ours

12th of April the day when major breakthrough took place and today we know it as the International day of Human Space Flight. Exactly for it Ekaterinburg Museum of Fine Arts organized exhibition project “Space is ours!”

Space attracted people in all times, but special attention was drawn in 20th-21st centuries. Important landmarks in its history – the launch of Sputnik I, flight of dogs and man, walk in the open space, docking and the first flight of female astronaut. The theme of Space was always interesting for artists (contemporaries of that period). It’s impossible to find any production of artistic kind that failed to address space theme. It’s porcelain and Zlatoust steel engraving and art casting, stone craving and jeweler’s art. Space theme was developed in works of Soviet artists and graphic artists of the second half of the 20th century. Space and its characters (cosmonauts, space suits and space rockets) become theme around which artists create story that is clear for everyone. Story of empathy, participation, where space motives easily assimilated in the every day life.

Main idea of the exhibition – Space is the dream that can become true for everybody, this idea is embodied in “Young cosmonaut-dreamer” from the collection of Ekaterinburg Museum of Fine Arts. Exhibition space conditionally is divided into three blocks. First shows us the ways to make dreams come true, main stories here are: first Sputnik, flight of Belka and Strelka. Second is about achieving a dream - flight of the Yuriy Gagrin and Tershkovoy, first space walk. Third is about modern co-existence of man and space.
