Gifts of friendship
Graphics from the collection of the Shlem1 Foundation in the collection of the Ekaterinburg Museum of Fine Arts
On December 11, the Ekaterinburg Museum of Fine Arts opens its exhibition of selected works from the collection of the Shlem graphic arts fund collection, which will combine about 150 sheets of printed and original graphics by artists from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Ekaterinburg, Nizhny Tagil and present a retrospective of graphic art of the 1950s-2000s in the dynamics of the creative processes taking place in it.
Gifts of friendship is a large-scale project by which the founders of the fund would like to summarize their collecting activities, which symbolically ended with the donation of more than 900 items to the Ekaterinburg Museum of Fine Arts. The exhibition will allow the viewer not only to get acquainted with the history of the unique gallery, but also to compile the most complete picture of the work of a number of famous authors of the Moscow, St. Petersburg and Ural art scenes. However, most of the exhibits are the works of the Sverdlovsk-Ekaterinburg art movement, represented by the names of more than fifty authors of both the older and younger generations. Among them, for example, such recognized masters of printed graphics as Alexei Kazantsev, Vitaly Volovich, Spartak Kiprin; representatives of unofficial art Evgeny Arbenev, Victor Gardt, Victor Goncharov; modern masters who boldly build new trajectories in the development of graphic art - Marina Razheva, Vladimir Romanov, Elena Gladysheva and many others. In this section, the viewer is given a rare opportunity to recreate key segments on the conventional timeline of the history of graphic art in the Ural capital.
The Shlem Foundation Gallery of Graphic Arts was founded in May 2007 by three like-minded people: collector and art critic Viktor Malinov, artist Oleg Karpenko and businessman Vladimir Titov. The fund’s activities were primarily aimed at creating a representative graphic collection that could fully reflect the creative searches of a number of prominent authors of the 20-21st centuries. In the process of establishing contacts with artists, collectors managed to lay the foundation of their rapidly growing collection - from the gifts not only of participants in a specific environment, rallied around one of the forms of fine art, but of really close friends.
Having played the role of a stimulating factor in the development and popularization of graphics in the art life in Ekaterinburg, the Shlem Foundation Gallery completed its fascinating story as swiftly as it started. Nevertheless, the results of such intensive work are still echoing in many projects and scientific research, in the work of the unions that have formed, the established careers of individual authors. And the exhibition Gifts of Friendship is, among other things, a way of recognizing the activities of collectors - the founders of the "Helmet" foundation.
Exhibition Gifts of Friendship will be presented at the Ekaterinburg Museum of Fine Arts from December 11, 2019 to February 2, 2020.
