Lecture by Cynthia Coleman Sparke (UK) “A Colored Stone at the Auctions: Russian Stone Cutting Market”
The presence of stone-cutting works at auctions forces one to pay attention to both their historical provenance and the influence that the old and only emerging collections have on the art market. We will also look at different segments of the carved stone market: from works that impressed the public at the World Exhibitions, through Faberge's objects coveted by collectors to the new sector of modern stone-cutting works.
